Dispatch Boulder - Over the Weekend

Last weekend started with a girl's night out on Friday.  My friend Catherine is introducing to me to all things Boulder awesome and I'm having the pleasure to meet her long standing girlfriends.  We started the evening with dinner at the [Next Door].  Yummy food for sure.  We then headed to the public library where they were hosting the preview party for the Open Studios Fall Artist Tour.   We got there about 15 minutes before closing, so we just did a quick run through with Cath making notes about which artists we would visit the next day.  We ended the evening at the St. Julien in the bar/lobby area listening to live salsa music and checking out the locals.  This is Boulder's fancy pants hotel/spa and they host wonderful, open-to-the public music and dancing events.  I've been told by many I've met here, that I need to make sure I take advantage of these events.  I think I will, thank you.

On Saturday morning, Catherine and her hubby picked me up and took me to lunch at Turley's (another first for me) and then we headed out to visit some artists and tour their studios.  I will tell you right up front, that I took no pictures of the studios.  Most were in the artist's homes and I felt really weird about asking to take pictures.  The photo above of the pastels is the only one I took that it is art related.  It was such a beautiful collection and clever way to store this artist's pastels, that I asked if I could photograph it.

These deer were hanging out on one of the streets where we visited a studio.  Maybe they were visiting studios too.

And how adorable is this pygmy goat!  On his balancing ball.  What a goof.  This was taken in the backyard of one of the artists.  Again, I hated to ask to take a picture of her artwork in her home, but thought nothing of snapping her cute little goat.

From pygmy goats to big dogs!  Sunday's hike took Hugo and I to Betasso Preserve just outside Boulder.  This hike, Canyon Loop, was an easy three mile soft path trail.  Well, easy for me.  Hugo is still getting use to these long walks in unfamiliar landscape.

So most of the hikes I've been on, start with one of these.......

Or a bear warning, or BOTH!  Not the best thing to read before heading out on a hike, but girl's got to have her hikes, so I just courage up and head out.  Of course, I do always feel a little better when Hugo is with me, but then really, he'd probably bolt and leave me behind to fend for myself.

This hike was actually so pleasant, that I'll be doing it again for sure.  And, it is easy so a great one to take my friends on when they come to visit.  Unless of course they want something more challenging, in which case I can hook them up.

I have no idea what this coming weekend holds for me, but on Thursday evening I'm headed to Lunafest with Catherine.   It is showing at the Boulder Theater which will be another first for me.  Sort of like The Paramount in Austin.  Can't wait!
