Happy Friday 11.02.12

I had so much fun yesterday.  I went to the Denver Zoo!  My main motivation for going was to take as many pictures as I could, of as many different animals as I could.  I've long wanted to start painting my own interpretation of the animal kingdom, and decided I'd rather use my own photographs as reference than those I could find online or in books.  It was a great day.

The giraffe.  This has got to be one of the oddest of God's creatures when it comes to animals.  But beautiful and delicate.  Quiet and graceful.  They are just so amazing to watch.  I took many shots, but am only going to share this one today.  I always think of giraffes as being a "neutral" in the animal world.  They seem to do no harm to other animals, nor are they the subject of harm.   They simply exist to add wonder to our world,

And these two goofballs!  High above the elephant and rhino enclosures these two (especially the white monkey) swung and leaped and did tricks over the crowd of people, entertaining just like a Cirque du Soleil act in Vegas.  This little stunt of theirs really got us all laughing.  I have some great shots of the little white monkey hanging high above us which I'll share next week.  And you know, I was short of shocked that they were right out in the open.  There was no net to keep them from dropping down into the crowd, but then the rope was so high, perhaps the monkeys instinctively know they can't survive a drop from that height.  But still....what if one of them fell by accident?  I had the best time watching these two play.  Truly nothing like it before for me at any zoo I've visited.

So that's all I'll share today but more zoo pics will follow.  I've got lots!  I hope everyone's weekend is a good one.  And, if there is a zoo close to you, I highly recommend a trip this weekend if you can swing it. (No pun intended.)  Hugs!
